Get Back On Track By Becoming A Student Of Time Management
If you are a career professional in today's world then you can appreciate how important it is to practice good time management principles. Writing a list of things to do and prioritising that list is now a well worn concept however, to become a successful student of time management you also need to create a mental awareness of how important your time is.
Believe me, time management is very real and learning good habits in relation to it vital if you want to be successful in both your professional and private life. Taking The First Step So how do you firstly get on the right time management track and secondly, become a successful student of time management. Quite simply, learn from those who have blazed this trail before you. While everyone has different goals and values, we are all after the end result: a better life incorporating career, family and recreation. There are a ton of resources on the subject; books, CD's and time management speakers. One of the biggest problems I see people have with this issue is finding a schedule that they can adopt and live by. As a student of time management, you will initially need to become disciplined in applying the principles and once you find a happy medium, stick with it. I used to adopt feelings of guilt for a short time if I slackened off during my designated productive time period. It's amazing how the sub conscious works. Now simply learning the principles is one thing but it will not make you an expert in time management. You need to take it a step further.Being able to analyse your own strategies and evaluate your progress is vital. The more you practice it, the more refinements you'll make until it becomes second nature. Are You A Time Waster? This is a critical area for most people. Time wasting is such a big issue that it accounts for a large portion of lost productivity in work environments and believe it or not, is a major reason for stress. As a student of time management, this will be one of your biggest challengers...eliminating waste. My success in mastering sound time management principles was my desire to not be satisfied once I had mastered a particular skill. I have continually sought ways of improving my skills further by reading and researching time management material. It's amazing to think that I am now disciplined and skilled enough to be both productive and recreation satisfied in the same 24 hour period. This from a former serial time waster. If you are a successful student of time management, my advice is continue to be one because you will have realised that life is so much better. If you are not but are keen to become one, now is a good time to start. |
