Improve Your Life With Good Time And Attendance Management Principles

J.D. Dean

A time and attendance management system has become almost a necessity within most companies, particularly larger ones. In the old days, an employee simply punched a card in a machine and worked his/her allotted time before punching out and going home. Today, work productivity has become a big issue and an employees effectiveness is no longer measured by the time they spend in the workplace but what is achieved during work hours.

Implementing time management solutions on a company level is tough; humans are essentially creatures of habit and any proposed change, whether it's good or bad is normally met with resistance.

Understanding Time And Attendance Management

Time and attendance management benefits are easier to understand from an employers perspective than from the employees. While such a system may be seen as unnecessary by employees it allows management to monitor employee performance more effectively and weed out those who are prone to be unproductive. In a way, it forces employees to be more accountable.

Gaining an overall picture is another benefit of today's automated systems. All employees are not created equally as some work harder than others and the data collected by an automated time and management system enables employers to see at a glance on who is most productive, efficient, company conscious or a serial absentee. Access to this information allows the ‘upper management’ to make informed decisions on how to improve employee performance and productivity on a large scale as well as who has earned the right to be rewarded.

Can A Time And Attendance Management Management System Be Used On A Personal Level?

A major aspect of time management is ensuring that not only are personal goals set but that they are achieved. short term goals are the stepping stones to achieving larger ones and the following suggestions can improve your own time management skills.

– Choose your main three goals for next year. Set weekly and monthly short term objectives and importantly, set deadlines.

– Make sure you designate a certain amount of time each day to work on your three overall goals for the year.

– Keep a record of your efforts each day. Things such as time started, time finished and even if you did nothing for that day, make sure you record it. This is particularly important in relation to the next step

– Do a review of your records at the end of each month. If you are lagging behind it's there in black and white and this is very powerful. It could also be that you are not devoting enough time to your goals which will give you the ability to adjust your strategy.

– By keeping a record, you are in effect challenging yourself to complete your short term objectives. Again, this is very powerful stuff. You'll also be able to determine whether you have been wasting time on unimportant tasks which you can then either eliminate or cut back.

The bottom line is that by recording a log, you can monitor your progress but more importantly, use it as a motivational tool to improve your time management habits.
